Local news, the weather guy you trust and your team’s game on the local network affiliate: that’s why many people hesitate to cut cable.

Here is how local channels IPTV coverage actually works in the US. Big city markets are usually well covered. Smaller markets vary. The only honest way to know about yours is to check before you pay, and we’ll do that with you on WhatsApp.
TL;DRThe short answer
Local channels IPTV coverage in our list is strongest in the large metro markets, where the local network affiliates are usually there by city name. Smaller markets are less consistent. Tell us your city or ZIP on WhatsApp and we’ll check today’s list before you buy.
CH 02How it works
The US is split into about 210 TV markets, each with its own set of local affiliates for the big national networks, plus independent and public stations. The media market you live in decides which local news and which game broadcasts you get on an antenna.
An IPTV lineup carries local affiliates as separate channels, grouped and named by city: think “New York” or “Dallas” next to the network name. The big markets are well represented because many viewers want them. A market of 150,000 homes in the Plains may have one or two of its affiliates, or none, at a given moment.
That’s the honest picture of IPTV local channels. Nobody serious can promise every affiliate in every market. It’s also why we check local channels IPTV coverage city by city when you ask, instead of quoting a national number that tells you nothing about your street.
CH 03Coast to coast
Patterns we see in our list today, not guarantees. For your own city, ask.
CH 04A day of locals
Traffic and weather from your city’s affiliate. In big markets this works just like cable; open your city group and favorite the stations you watch.
Local midday news on the station you prefer, or the national feed if your market is thin.
Pro football on the local affiliate. In a covered market you watch your local game; otherwise the national feeds carry the national windows. Our sports IPTV page has the full calendar.
Missed it? On Premium 4K, local channels with replay can be watched back the next morning.

CH 05Severe weather
In tornado and hurricane country, local TV is safety equipment. An IPTV stream of your local affiliate shows the same weather coverage as cable, as long as your internet is up.
That last part matters. When the power goes out, so does the router. For severe weather, keep phone alerts on and a battery radio or an antenna TV in the house, whatever you use for daily TV. We’d say the same about any streaming service.
For everyday weather and local news, IPTV local channels in a covered market are as useful as cable, and you can watch them on your phone in the next room.
CH 06Side by side
Many households end up using two of these. Here is what each does well.
| Antenna | Cable | IPTV local channels | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cost | One-time, about $25 to $80 | Part of a cable bill with a broadcast TV fee | Included in the plan |
| Your market’s affiliates | Yes, if you’re in range of the towers | Yes | Big markets usually; small markets vary |
| Other cities’ locals | No | No | Yes |
| Works on a phone | No | In the cable app, at home | Yes, anywhere |
| Replay | With a separate recorder | With a rented DVR | 3 days on Premium 4K, 7 on Lifetime Max |
| Works in a power cut | With a battery TV | No | No |
CH 07Time zones
National networks send out an East feed and a West feed, three hours apart. If your local affiliate isn’t in the list, those feeds are your fallback for prime-time shows and national game broadcasts.
Pick the feed that matches your clock. On the East Coast and in Central time, the East feed lines up with local listings, because Central markets air the East feed an hour earlier on the clock. On the West Coast, use the West feed. In Mountain time it’s a judgment call: the East feed puts prime time two hours early, the West feed one hour late. Most Denver and Phoenix customers pick one and stick with it.
Remember that Arizona doesn’t change its clocks, so for half the year Phoenix lines up with the West Coast and for the other half with Denver. That’s one reason a working local channels IPTV feed for Phoenix is worth checking for specifically.
CH 08Step by step
Five minutes, no commitment.
Write down the local stations you watch, by network and city: “the channel 2 evening news in Tulsa” is enough.
WhatsApp us the list together with your ZIP code.
We tell you which of them are in the current lineup and in what quality.
If your locals are there, pick a plan. If not, you know exactly what you’d be relying on the national feeds or an antenna for.
Live channels run a few seconds behind antenna broadcast, like every streaming service. You’ll notice it only if a neighbor with an antenna cheers first.
Yes. You get what the affiliate broadcasts, crawls and local ads included, a few seconds behind the antenna. Still, never treat any stream as your only source of storm warnings.
Those usually air on the local affiliate or a small regional station. In a covered market you see whatever the affiliate carries. Small regional stations are hit and miss, so ask about the one you need.
City groups don’t depend on your address, so if your old market is in today’s list, it stays on your login. Many people keep both: the new city for weather, the old one for the teams they grew up with.
Yes. Every city group in the list is available on your login, so a Bostonian in Florida can still watch the Boston news.
Almost never. Local affiliates broadcast in HD; you’ll see HD and FHD versions in the list.
It happens when a feed’s source changes. Let us know; there’s often a twin in the same city group, or the station returns. The 60-day refund window still protects you.
In many big markets, yes: public stations and Spanish-language locals sit in the same city groups. Miami, Los Angeles, Houston and Dallas are usually strong. Our Latino lineup page covers the Spanish side.
The local groups are on every plan. Higher plans add depth and replay; see the guide to how the lineup works.
